Zoë Parker Smissen

'Gilded Charred Circle'
Larch from Kielder Forest, Northumberland, 24ct gold leaf, 2022

Zoë writes,
"Inspired by the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, and technique of yakisugi, this piece combines naturally found materials as a metaphor to the beautifully precious cycle of life: Trauma, death, rebuilding, rebirth… finally reaching a celebration of new beginnings. The concept of ‘place’ and where the natural materials are found forms an integral part of the piece as an emphasis on the respect of its origins."
