'Portrait in the second trimester'

Water-based matt paint, oil-based gloss, watercolour paint, pastels, pen and ink on cardboard panel, 2022 - 2023

Jasmin writes: “In the second trimester of my pregnancy I experienced what I believe to be an antenatal hormone induced hallucination wherein my body, thoughts and mind duplicated and became two conscious entities only connected by the baby growing in my womb. I was in limbo ‘crossing over’ from one body and plane of existence to the next.

Both consciousnesses existed alongside one another in separate physical timelines only a few seconds apart - the right side (my right) being a second ahead of the other. I was hearing two trains of thought simultaneously and experiencing contrasting emotions from the separate bodies…I practised meditation… [and] spent the following days and weeks documenting my experience through drawing and digital outcomes. The artworks submitted are examples of this.”
