Exquisite Corpse

Textile Hanging, 2023

Elizabeth Black's wall hanging and ‘Weave Your Own’ workshop embodied the transformative potential of the creative process. The woven and crossed over fabrics of ‘Exquisite Corpse’ hung tall, and reached down far below. Its body, evidence of hundreds of moments, spent breathing new life into fabrics that would otherwise have been discarded.

Elizabeth shared this mindful process of creation with exhibition visitors during her ‘Craft Your Own - Weaving Workshop’. A workshop participant reflects;

"I thoroughly enjoyed the weave workshop with El. The session was very relaxed and the process of weaving is very mindful. The session was suitable for beginners and experts alike. The environment allowed us to share experiences of grief and loss whilst working on our own weave outcome. I'd definitely like to do more.”

Regret

A spoken word performance by Elizabeth Black

A review of Elizabeth Black’s performance, ‘Regret’ by artist, philosopher and gallerist Sarah Leanne Trappe.

“A Spoken word performance on the theme of deathbed regrets.

An affecting solo performance exploring the touching, pathetically sad and eye-opening theme of death bed regrets. A passionate ride through analysis of the most commonly reported death bed regrets, weaving in and out of the author’s personal life journey and the moments along that journey that heavily exemplify the tragic and sometimes comic connection to these regrets.

An attention demanding work that deafeningly lays bare the trivialities that prevent us living and connecting prior to our deathbed leaving a set of shared regrets that ironically do connect us. The tapestry woven with a scrutiny of these regrets and personal recollections creates a strangely beautiful image that affects us all and that powerfully demands we carefully assess the way we navigate our journeys to the ‘afterlife’.”
