'It’s Just Like Going To Sleep'

As I lay here immobilised, I accept it. I feel the warm blood pooling between my shoulder and the concrete, and it is oddly comforting. I know the questions of when and how are answered in these last
moments.
A trip and a stumble and a fall. A simple and uncomplicated end to an average existence. I do not ask myself why because I know we just are, and I do not fear it. There will be darkness and there will be no more.
There is no flashing of life before my eyes, but I ask. Have I done enough? Did I waste my time? Am I happy laying here knowing that I can do no more? Every night I asked these questions so really, it’s just like going to sleep.
